Juan Peláez y Fabra has more than fifty-two years of professional experience in civil, commercial, procedural and bankruptcy law.
He was a member of the Governing Board of the Madrid Bar Association from 1984 to 1991. He has been chairman of the Fees Committee, of the Settlements and Arbitration Committee and chairman of the Arbitration Committee.
He was responsible for drafting the Fees Rules of the Madrid Bar Association, which were in force for more than ten years.
In addition, he implemented the system for the evacuation of the Bar’s rulings on the appraisal of costs, which was a “source of inspiration” for the Paris Bar, and for which he came to Madrid. Bruno Boccara, a member of the Board of that College.
Among his most notable merits is the organisation of the Legal Guidance Service, which was eventually implemented in all judicial offices in Spain.
Peláez y Fabra was awarded the San Raimundo de Peñafort Cross of Honour for drafting the 1988 Arbitration Law, which served as a working document in the Codification Commission.
In terms of teaching, Peláez y Fabra is a lecturer in Insolvency Law on the Postgraduate Master’s Degree in Private Law at the San Pablo-CEU University in Madrid.
